I know that the commandments have guided me in my life and in my relationships. A prophet once said –
When we keep the commandments, our lives will be happier and less complicated. Our challenges and problems will be easier to bear.
Thomas S Monson
Looking back down the years of my life and seeing the world around me, I know that this statement is true. The gospel of Jesus Christ, his baptism and sacraments, are also instrumental in strengthening commitment and faith.
I recently attended church in Great Falls, MT. One of the speakers there spoke of the 10 commandments of the old testament as the “carnal commandments”, because they teach against basic human instincts. Even though the 10 commandments are old, they are still difficult for people to follow. The human instincts of jealousy, thievery, and murder are still very much with us.
Just think what the world would be like if we all lived the 10 commandments. No wars, no ponzi schemes, no burglary, no adultery. That’s a different world than the one we have today. What a revelation Moses received — and one that the world still hasn’t received! Think of all the tears that would’ve never been shed had we all accepted the carnal commandments and lived them!!

In our day the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth. We have His prophets to give us instruction and prepare us for things to come. As we hear Him through his prophets, we can receive more understanding and consolation in our personal lives. This is the Kingdom of God on the earth today:-)
