New Things

This fall we will be empty nesters for a decade. We’ve had time to do many of the things we longed to do as young parents. No, it’s not travel. I’m talking DATING!!

Weekly dates are recommended for married couples, but as a busy family we were never able to fit them in. After the busy work week, and chasing the kids’ schedules, about the only thing we wanted to do on Saturday was go for a walk. Maybe.

Enjoying a movie together was our typical ‘date night’.

However, mission life reemphasized many things. For example, the discipline of doing daily things that constitute a christian life, such as scripture, service, and prayer. We also found that working together on shared projects create unity, understanding, and appreciation – all wonderful qualities in a good marriage.

Somehow these principles, along with years of hints, light-hearted begging, and all out wheedling, my sweetheart finally agreed to take Square Dance Lessons with me! Woohoo!!

It was a full 16 week, Wednesday night commitment that felt like a true date night! We spun! We laughed! We held hands all night long! It was amazing!!

Kim receiving her diploma from the Caller -Dan Preedy.
Steve, happy to graduate!

The best thing about SQUARE DANCING is that it isn’t competitive. Politeness and respect are built into every dance. There are no losers either, so everyone goes home more relaxed than when they came. Plus, you easily get your steps in!

We graduated in a group of 22 people from 13-70 yrs old. Our new diploma assures us that we are welcome to attend any Mainstream Square Dance in the world.

With a bit more wheedling, I believe we’ll be attending a festival in Great Falls:-)
