Jasper Nat’l Park

This year we went on an adventure in Jasper National Park. We saw sheep, bear and elk. We didn’t even need to get out of our car to see nature up close.

The scenery is spectacular! Where Yellowstone is molded by volcanic activity, Jasper’s landscape is created by glaciers. There are glacial moraines, glacial lakes, avalanches, and Yes! Snow, all year around!

Hikes of various lengths get you out into the countryside for fresh air and nature. The park is very well run with many sights to see, but it can be absolutely overwhelming if you don’t do your homework to decide your absolute must-sees! Search the internet for ideas.

The Columbia Icefield is the largest icefield in the North American Rockies. Toward the left is the glacier creeping down the mountain. The lake is at the bottom edge of the icefield.

Jasper is a town right in the middle of Jasper National Park. Visitors can enjoy the park as a back country hiker with-a-tent, a glamping visitor with a camper, or a citified visitor in a hotel room. The first two types of adventurer bring their own transportation so getting to various trailheads and sites are easy. The citified visitor has to rely on shuttles and tours to get around.

Lake Annette, close to Jasper town, has a paved path all the way around it.

Lake Annette was my favorite place to visit. The water is a glacial green and blue. Views of mountains – Whistler, Mt Pyramid (pictured here is Mt. Pyramid), and Mt Edith surround the scenic valley. On the day we visited the weather was surprisingly warm and people were swimming, kayaking, and paddle-boarding.

This waterfall is actually an avalanche on Mt Edith. the sound of it falling was like thunder.

For the beauty of the earth,

For the beauty of the skies,

For the love which from our birth

Over and around us lies,

Lord of all, to thee we raise

This our hymn of grateful praise.
