A Good Life

Life is very funny. We all know that it takes time for an embryo to grow to create a child, and yet we are often surprised by the birth. It’s just such a huge change in our lives!

So it also is with death. We all know that our lives will end in death, but death always feels like it is far away and not applicable to us somehow. But, when the doctor postulates a time – a year to live, six months to live, two months…! Whatever the doctor predicts, is way too soon and very surreal.

Suddenly all those church lessons on the Plan of Redemption, on Jesus Christ as our Savior and mediator who would restore us to God, on the purpose of life and that “this Life is the time for men to prepare to meet God,” — ALL of those lessons return to your mind with great clarity.

Alma, a book of Mormon prophet, explained –

11 Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection—Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life. (Alma 40:11)
