What Science Discovered

Science, or the study of the physical and natural world, has been a boon to mankind in helping us to grow better crops, predict and even curtail natural disasters, and ease human suffering due to virulent diseases.

I am no scientist but I love to follow the reasoning of great thinkers. And, it seems that great scientists believe the second law of thermodynamics which is “that the state of entropy (chaos) of the entire universe, as an isolated system, will always increase over time.”(https://chem.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Physical_and_Theoretical_Chemistry_Textbook_Maps/Supplemental_Modules_(Physical_and_Theoretical_Chemistry)/Thermodynamics/The_Four_Laws_of_Thermodynamics/Second_Law_of_Thermodynamics

This is a very interesting scientific law because it has led some very influential scientists to declare –

Left to itself, everything tends to become more disorderly, until the final and natural state of things is a completely random distribution of matter. Any kind of order… is unnatural, and happens only by chance encounters. These events are statistically unlikely and the further combination of molecules into anything as highly organized as a living organism is wildly improbable. Life is a rare and unreasonable thing: Life occurs by chance, and…the probability of its occurring and continuing is infinitesimal. (Lyall Watson, Supernature (New York: Anchor Press, 1973), 8.)

These scientific deductions lead the philosophers and theologians to speculate what law or force in the world is keeping the universe going. How does life even exist? What benevolent force is allowing it to continue?

Jesus Christ is the force that created the world through the presiding authority of Heavenly Father. The world is a place where Heavenly Father’s spirit children can exercise their freedom to choose between good and evil. Through the atonement of Jesus Christ all of God’s children can access His power to repent and become more like Him. In a very real sense, this earth is a proving ground.

At first, science was a study of how God created the world. But at some point, scientists began telling God how the world was made and when things didn’t fit they simply removed God all together. However, when looking at the wonder of the chemical structure of an atom and the spiral nature of our galaxy, how could anyone deduce that there is no God? No divine designer?

Between the electrical signals coming through the eye to the brain and our reaction to a tree in blossom on a fresh spring day, there is a vast gap which physics shows no signs of ever being able to bridge…It may even be that whatever it is that is peculiar to life and particular to thought lies outside the scope of physical concepts. (P. T. Matthews, The Nuclear Apple (London: Chatto and Windus, 1971), 141-142.)

In other words – some knowledge is only found in the spiritual. We must Seek, Ask and Knock just as Jesus Christ urged us to do in the book of Matthew.
