Senior Missions

Among the 72000 missionaries serving as disciples of Christ in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, over 5300 are senior missionaries. Serving a mission is the new retirement! And now, as senior single brothers are allowed to serve alone, the number of serving seniors is expected to go up.

More people are living the joy of missionary service!

Living among consecrated disciples of Christ who truly have a desire to serve God is one of the greatest blessings of the mission. The Doctrine of Christ is taught in all gatherings, emphasized in all lessons, and practiced in the missionaries daily routine. The spirit of Christ permeates every aspect of daily life!

A missionary’s purpose is to:

Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.

Missionaries focus on Jesus Christ and His teachings. As they strive to understand, live, and apply His teachings in their own lives, they look for ways to share His gospel with others.

Not all missionaries go out and actively find people to teach. Many missionaries provide service by providing leadership support in local churches, by working in mission offices, by serving in temple and family history sites, and by partnering with other charitable organizations to provide welfare services to those in need. There are so many different ways to serve!

In the mission field, the prevailing social environment of competition and comparison is gradually replaced with a sincere desire to help others. This new perspective allows the disciple of Christ to grow in faith, in love, and in testimony, and at the same time build the kingdom of God on the earth.

In serving, missionaries can truly set aside the things of the world and seek for a better!
