Holy Week

Today is Palm Sunday! The beginning of the week that celebrates the life and resurrection of Jesus the Christ. It was at this time, the ancient Passover week, that so many amazing and awe-inspiring things happened in the history of the world for the benefit of all mankind.

The people shouted “hosanna!”a phrase which means “please, save us!”

The people had heard of the great prophet, Jesus of Galilee, who had healed the sick and raised a man from the dead. Many were excited to greet and see him! They waived palm branches over his head and spread their clothes at His feet shouting praises to Him. The Pharisees, Sadducees and scribes were jealous. (John 11:57)

Only a few miles from Jerusalem is the town of Bethany where many friends of Jesus lived, namely Simon the Leper, and Lazarus and his sisters Mary and Martha. While they ate the evening meal, Mary came and anointed Jesus with costly oil. Some of the disciples complained, but Jesus defended Mary and said–

6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.

7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.

8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. (Mark 14:6-8)

Jesus knew his time was at hand. Indeed, the divine plan of salvation could only work with a Savior, a perfect being willing to live, teach, and die for all of us, who could take His life up again, whole and healthy, and be restored to the presence of God, the Father. Only Jesus the Christ lived a perfect life. Only Jesus the Christ could restore us to God, our Father.

Today, and everyday, let us remember His wondrous work. He is the Lamb of God!

John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. (John 1:29)

He is Risen!
