Root of the Problem

The other day I shared my joy at the birth of a long awaited granddaughter. The woman, my neighbor smiled and laughed with me. Then she said, “babies are fine as long as they don’t ruin the planet.” In the distraction of the moment, I didn’t have an appropriate response.

But the next morning, I texted her a picture and this phrase.

“Babies don’t ruin the planet, but greedy people can.”

Babies cannot choose. They don’t pollute or destroy. They are completely helpless in a very hostile world. The only thing standing between a healthy baby and certain death are the hands of loving and caring parents.

Babies are miracles that repeatedly challenge natural law.

The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that “systems tend towards increasing disorder, meaning they naturally “descend into chaos” over time.

How does new life constantly keep appearing? Babies are born whole, with new nervous systems, cardiovascular systems, respiratory systems, skeletal systems and even reproductive systems. Not just human babies, but babies of all species are formed and functioning complete with everything necessary to sustain life.

How can science get this second law of thermodynamics too right to change, yet so wrong that there are a multitude of exceptions?

The answer is –

JESUS CHRIST

HE created this world and He is the only force standing between us and ruin. HE is the only being who can save us. The only being who has conquered sin and death. He loves us, His children, and He created this world for our development and growth. His love for us is unbounded.

For Behold, this is my work and my glory — to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. (Moses 1:39)

Jesus Christ is wholly invested in us and this requires a response from us. When faced with all His love, His suffering, and His Gospel, what will your response be?

Hopefully, you will have a desire to know more about Him and His love for you.

There is a great need for all of us adults to take responsibility for the choices we make. Karma is an ancient Asian idea that whatever you send out into the world will come back to you as your reward in the next life. This idea is stated very clearly in the Book of Mormon, Alma chapter 41.

And it is requisite with the justice of God that men should be judged according to their works; and if their works were good in this life, and the desires of their hearts were good, that they should also, at the last day, be restored unto that which is good.

And if their works are evil they shall be restored unto them for evil. Therefore, all things shall be restored to their proper order, every thing to its natural frame— mortality raised to immortality, corruption to incorruption—raised to endless happiness to inherit the kingdom of God, or to endless misery to inherit the kingdom of the devil, the one on one hand, the other on the other —
