Wisdom’s Ways

Life is a gift that contains a cornucopia of experiences. At times, life can be difficult and lonely. Our individual experiences can separate us from each other and make us believe that no one else can ever understand us. Sometimes the future can look so bleak and scary that even people with great faith are anxious and troubled.

As a youth I remember the wisdom of leaders who helped me sort out scriptures that would lend me strength in my life’s trials. I keep many of these scriptures memorized to help buoy me up when I feel the crushing weight of the world.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Tim. 1:7)

“Fear is the mind-killer” as Frank Herbert expressed in his novel Dune. This is an emotion that isn’t inspired by God, but is inspired by God’s opposite. All the more reason to get rid of it.

Faith is the opposite of fear and is a positive and divine gift that, when rooted in Jesus Christ, engenders hope and strength.

I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; (Alma 26:12)

The power the Lord gives comes from the confidence we receive as we do the Lord’s will. Keeping commandments, giving service, repenting and making sacred covenants with God are activities that help us show our faith and commitment to Him. As we seek to do His work, He will help us in our righteous endeavors.

Charity is a gift of the Holy Ghost. Earnestly sought, this love can provide the disciple of Christ with an understanding and patient heart. The Holy Ghost can also impart comfort, inspiration, warnings, and knowledge.

As we grow in our discipleship we grow in the knowledge of the Lord. As we earnestly follow our God and His inspiration, the dangerous world recedes. The joy of His Gospel fills are lives and we look forward to the second coming of Jesus Christ with peace and joy in our hearts and minds.
