I found this wonderful dish – Cypriot Lentils. You can make this recipe at https://www.christina-soteriou.com/recipes/cypriot-lentils . If you make it from the recipe below, add the cumin and the stock at the same time as the rice. It is Cypriot comfort food and it was wonderful. We needed sustenance!
Even though we weren’t 100% we kept going! We did our first interview on Monday. It was with a young Cypriot who joined the church less than 2 years ago. He served as Sunday School President and Branch Mission Leader in the Limassol branch and on Tuesday he left to serve a mission in Thessaloniki, Greece. He is one of the first Cypriots to serve a mission!

The very next day, Steve came down with the Terrible Cold and our Church History boss, Christian Fingerle, arrived from Frankfurt. It was a struggle to keep up with Brother Fingerle’s training, but to his credit, Steve did not give up or call it quits. He is an inspiration!

As for Brother Fingerle, he is a gentleman and a credit to Germany. With his extensive church service as an Area Authority Mission Leader, Stake President and his polite, Christ-like manners, he was a true pleasure to work with! Brother Fingerle took us to breakfast every morning and so we had sustenance!
Brother Fingerle left us on Thursday night and on Friday we had Zone Conference and met our Mission Leaders for the very first time!

For our Zone Conference we went to the Troodos Mountains. Elder Alonso had never seen snow before in his life! He wanted to throw snowballs, but I persuaded him not to. The snow was too icy and I didn’t want him to have an ice ball fight! That could end in disaster!

For zone conference, we received spiritual sustenance! Just enough to get us home again and give us time to write our talks for Sunday! I spoke on my favorite topic – the Doctrine of Christ – a meaty topic that will give you sustenance!
Jesus said, He that is baptized in my name, to him will the Father give the Holy Ghost, like unto me; wherefore, follow me, and do the things which ye have seen me do.
2 Ne 31:12

I think I’m going to try the lentil rice It sounds delicious. Wow you guys have been on the run ever since you got there hopefully you’ll get used to it and become true Cypriots. I was worried a bit hearing you use the word sustenance alot are you eating ok? I was also surprised your weather sounds alot like ours right now. Its still cold but we are so happy to have had sunshine the last 2 days. It makes a whole world of difference. Not much has changed around here but Jamie Wolf talked in church today and did a great job Erik still has not gone to the temple. The Hortons, brother smith and Trevor smith and Katelyn Duce will be taking temple prep lessons. I looked in the handbook and it talks about alot of what goes on in the temple so I’m going suggest maybe we base our lessons around that. I think our Manuel is so outdated. We’ll see. We’re so glad to hear from you and pray that you will adjust and love your mission. You guys are awesome. Dave and Shirley
