In the last 245 years much has changed in the wonderful United States of America. An apostle of God, Elder Dallin Oaks, encouraged us in April 2021 to “trust in the Lord and be positive about [our] nation’s future.” The following are suggestions he made on how we can support our divinely inspired constitution.
- Pray: Prayer is powerful. Inviting Heavenly Father to advocate on our behalf, to influence leaders for good, and inspire them for right is very effective. We cannot underestimate it.
- Get informed: No leader or party will completely fill all our personal preferences. We need to decide our priorities, then vote, serve or donate according to our decisions. It may even mean that we switch party support from time to time.
- Speak out: Leaders do not know what is important to us unless we let our voices be heard. This ‘hearing’ can come from service, donations, voting, and phone calls/letters to our representatives.
We all have a stake in the future of the United States of America. These three proactive steps can keep our country a wonderful place to live.
