A Zion People

We’ve been blessed to live within a days drive of two of our children. Sometimes we can even provide useful skills. This last week we visited our daughter, the Hendrix family, and helped them install a new floor. It was very rewarding.

New flooring means no furniture and everyone sit on the floor:-)

I attended church with them. The teacher asked – what is a zion-like community? And How do we make our church more zion-like? The answers generated from these questions were interesting, and in no way complete, but there were a few ideas that I liked and wanted to share.

Someone answered this question with the Prophet’s direction to “think celestial”. Zion people live celestial laws, and are disciples of Christ – the master teacher.

Jesus Christ encourages us all with His loving, healing words.

Another person mentioned how Co-vid was very difficult because it was so isolating. She felt that people should seek out their covenant relationships in their community, ward and family, and keep those ties of communication strong and active no matter the circumstance.

The last person pointed out how important it was to keep confidences and maintain that trust in all relationships. She had an experience where she confided in a friend who did not keep her confidences but told them to others. This ruined their relationship and caused strong and hurtful emotions. Trust, she reiterated, is necessary in all good relationships.

Christlike communications are expressed in tones of love rather than loudness. They are intended to be helpful rather than hurtful. They tend to bind us together rather than to drive us apart. They tend to build rather than to belittle.”

When we have righteous communication we build Zion, we build each other, and we grow in our ability to serve each other as Jesus Christ would do.
