Moose!

It has been a very mild winter here in north Idaho. It felt like spring was coming early until March came and blew in some more freezing temperatures and snow. I think even the animals were fooled.

I was walking the 300 yards or so to my house from my mom’s house when I heard something snort off to my right. I looked up to see a huge hairy animal with a long face, calf by her side, not even 30 feet away!

Fearing her sharp hooves, I held my breath and tip-toed on towards home hoping not to hear her galloping approach. I quietly called Steve and let him know I was in danger. If I didn’t arrive soon, he’d have to come looking. Lucky for me, Mama Moose didn’t perceive me as a threat.

This moose is like Isaiah, or any of our prophets – if you don’t pay attention to them you may be caught up in some prophesied event you are not prepared for. And I was definitely not prepared to see a moose!

There are many “moose” dangers in our lives. Our prophet, President Nelson, is very good in warning us about spiritual dangers and even physical dangers. Recently, President Nelson warned us that —

in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.

Russell M. Nelson, Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives (Ensign, May 2018), 93.

This great blessing is entirely within our reach. Our baptismal covenants promise that if we take His name upon us, always remember Him, and keep his commandments”, He will bless us with the Holy Spirit.

As we diligently keep our side of the covenant, we need to actively look for and seek this gift of the Holy Ghost from the hand of the Lord. Our Lord has proven Himself a very faithful covenant keeper. We are sure to have this blessing as we ask in faith.

President Lorenzo Snow once said —

“This is the grand privilege of every Latter-day Saint … that it is our right to have the manifestations of the Spirit every day of our lives.”

Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Lorenzo Snow (2012), 76.
