As a parent and grandparent I want to teach my family what matters most. Understanding that each person is a Child of God who has divine potential is an important concept. Baptism is a necessary step on the path of discipleship. After baptism and confirmation many questions arise, such as, how do I know I have the Holy Ghost with me?, and how does the Holy Ghost speak to me? These are important questions and we need clear, concise answers.

President Bednar explained in a recent devotional at Ensign College.
Worthy Latter-day Saints “are living in revelation” and will not always recognize inspiration in the moment it occurs. When one worthily partakes of the sacrament and renews covenants each week, one is promised “that we may always have the Spirit to be with us.”
“If you are honoring your covenants, repenting and pressing forward with faith in the Savior, then you are living in revelation. It does not just come once in a while. You continually are being influenced by the power of the Holy Ghost.”
This helps parents, and grandparents, teach and understand that the Holy Ghost comes by living the Gospel and having faith in Christ and His atonement. It might be informative for disciples of Christ to remember a time when they were arguing and contending with someone. That was a time when they absolutely DID NOT have the Spirit with them.
Jesus Christ confirmed that contention was not from Him.
He that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another. 3 Ne. 11:29

The Spirit thrives within us as we grow in obedience to the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
