During the last week of his mortal ministry Jesus taught many parables. One of His most well known parables describes 5 foolish virgins who didn’t buy enough oil to last the evening before the bridegroom invited them to enter the marriage feast. They are contrasted to 5 wise virgins who brought enough oil but weren’t willing to share with the foolish virgins but told them to buy oil in the market.

It seems a little strange that the wise virgin wouldn’t share their oil. Modern revelation given to Joseph Smith clarifies this parable.
56 And at that day, when I shall come in my glory, shall the parable be fulfilled which I spake concerning the ten virgins.
57 For they that are wise and have received the truth, and have taken the Holy Spirit for their guide, and have not been deceived—verily I say unto you, they shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire, but shall abide the day.
Now it makes perfect sense. Of course the wise virgins couldn’t share their oil with the foolish virgins. The oil is the Spirit. At baptism, all are commanded to ‘receive the Holy Ghost’ but only the wise, and diligent, followers of Christ actually do so. Those who take the Holy Spirit for their guide are the 5 wise virgins and they will abide the day when He comes again.
He is Risen!

Great insights. Thanks
