STREET SMARTS?

We live in Escazú, San José Costa Rica. Escazú is a suburb of the big city and it is considered one of the nicest areas in the city. On our way to the office we pass this street sign. It is a funny sign. It helps us laugh at ourselves, forgive ourselves for the follies of youth, and look at the rising generation with compassion. (The translation is below the picture.)

Before one is old and wise, one is young and stupid.

BUT – we really don’t have to start out stupid!

What I LOVE about the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the knowledge we receive about who we are, who God is, and what our purpose is here on earth. Not just that, but we get the words of the prophets from the Book of Mormon who unabashedly loved their children and sought what was best for them.

O, remember, my son, and learn wisdom in thy youth; yea, learn in thy youth to keep the commandments of God. (Alma 37:35)

We will definitely make mistakes, but the mercy of our Savior is not to be denied! As we seek to put our trust in Him, we will make covenants that will bring us blessings and responsibilities – such as the gift of the Holy Ghost. The abiding presence of the Holy Ghost is a companion to faithful followers of Christ and will tell them “all things what they should do.” (2 Ne. 32:3)
